Climate-Based Maintenance Tips


Cold Regions (Russia, Northern Europe, North America)


Focus on coolant freezing point, which should remain at least 10°C below the local minimum temperature to prevent radiator and pipe freezing damage. According to professional maintenance data, different coolant brands and colors should never be mixed, otherwise sediment may form and block cooling lines. Older used cars are advised to replace coolant completely every two years.


Use 0W-20 or 0W-30 fully synthetic oil with better low-temperature flow performance. In cold environments, low-viscosity oil can quickly form a protective oil film, reducing cold-start engine wear and improving starting performance.


During winter, tire pressure can be increased by 0.1–0.2 bar because low temperatures naturally reduce tire pressure. In snowy regions, winter tires are recommended, with tread depth maintained above 4 mm for safe driving on ice and snow.


In addition, battery discharge performance drops significantly in cold weather. Before using an overseas used car, battery voltage and terminals should be inspected, and oxidation on connectors should be cleaned to avoid starting failure in low temperatures.


Hot Regions (Africa, Middle East, Southeast Asia)


Use higher-viscosity oils such as 5W-40 or 10W-40 for high-temperature conditions. In hot environments, engine oil oxidizes and deteriorates faster, while higher-viscosity oil slows degradation and maintains lubrication performance.


According to high-temperature maintenance references, road surface temperatures in hot regions can exceed 60°C. Radiators and condensers should be cleaned regularly to remove dust, insects, and debris, while thermostats and cooling pipes should also be inspected to ensure proper heat dissipation and prevent engine overheating.


Transmission fluid replacement intervals should be shortened by 20%, since high temperatures accelerate fluid aging. Avoid long idle periods and continuous high-load driving to reduce transmission overheating risks.


At the same time, tire pressure rises easily in hot weather, so summer tire pressure can be lowered by 0.1–0.2 bar to reduce blowout risks. Air conditioning filters and refrigerant should also be checked regularly to ensure proper cooling performance and reduce engine load.


Rainy / Humid Regions (Southeast Asia, Coastal Areas)


Brake fluid moisture content should be checked carefully, because humid environments accelerate moisture absorption and deterioration. If moisture exceeds 3%, DOT4 brake fluid should be replaced immediately to avoid soft braking or brake failure.


Tire tread depth should remain above 3 mm. On wet roads, deeper tread patterns help drain water quickly, improving grip and reducing skidding risks.


Rainy and coastal regions usually have high humidity and salt content, which easily corrodes vehicle chassis components. The underbody should be cleaned regularly to remove mud and standing water, and anti-rust treatment is recommended every six months.


Wiper blades and body drainage channels should also be inspected to prevent water accumulation. Humid climates can cause wiring oxidation as well, so engine bay wiring and battery terminals should be checked regularly and cleaned to avoid short circuits or dashboard warning lights.


After driving in rain, lightly pressing the brake pedal can help dry the brake discs through friction heat and reduce braking noise.
